7 Ways To Create A Happier, Healthier You

For the past couple of years I have been working on improving myself, both physically and emotionally. I have to say that it's not exactly the easiest thing to do, but for the determined individual, such as me, it is very possible.
Here are a seven ways to help create a happier, healthier you:
1. Always be learning. There is so much information out there in libraries, in schools, online, through blogs, etc. that there is always something new to learn about. Start with something that interests you and conduct research about it. Learn everything there is to know about it, and just keep going from there. After five college degrees, I am still learning.
2. Serve others. This is a great way to improve yourself (and learn about others). Whether it's something simple like baking some cookies for a sick friend or neighbor, volunteering with a company like Habitat for Humanities, or conducting fundraising for a specific cause, in the end you'll feel better about yourself for helping others out.
3. Get physical. Physical activity is a great way to improve both your mental and physical health because it lowers stress, improves circulation, and is overall just plain good for you. Whether it's hitting the gym, hiking, or playing at the playground with your kids getting physical will make you an all around better person.
4. Pay down your debt. A major cause of stress is debt - credit card, medical bills, mortgage payments, loans, etc. It's a fact of life that debt will likely be around, but paying off debt even a little at a time can greatly reduce your stress levels and make you a happier person.
5. Get more sleep. Enough said.
6. Find culture. Many of us, okay probably the majority of us, go through our days working, taking care of kids, shopping, etc. and many of us just don't know how we'd ever make the time to soak in some good culture - even though it's probably right down the road. My advice is to make time for it. Just an hour or two every couple of weeks can greatly increase your happiness. Visit local museums, dance companies, galleries, music halls, and theaters. Take your kids along - exposure to culture is good for them, too.
7. Social media. Okay, many people probably don't want to limit their social media usage (it is quite addicting), but maybe try to lower your usage by an hour a week. Also, ensure that your profiles are set to private and your passwords are complex to deter hackers. I also recommend only posting positive and uplifting posts. This will help make your mood better and will be a positive influence on you and your friends.
